Membrana Filtration

WHAT IS ULTRAFILTRATION & MICROFILTRATION?

MicrofiltrationMicrofiltration is a way of removing contaminants in the size range 0.1 to 10.0 µm from fluids or gases. Microfiltration is achieved by passing liquids or gasses through a microporous medium such as a membrane. There are two techniques used in microfiltration: dead-end filtration, for which microfiltration is widely used, and cross-flow filtration, which flows the fluid being filtered tangentially across the membrane.

Ultrafiltration
Ultrafiltration is a process similar to microfiltration. The main difference is the "tighter" retention behavior. Ultrafiltration membranes keep much smaller particles from passing through the membrane than microfiltration membranes do. Typically the particle size is measured by molecular weight; ultrafiltration membranes have retention characteristics from 1,000 to 1,000,000 molecular weight.
